What to Get Done in the Third Trimester

It’s the final countdown, da da da-nuh! Now, this is something to be celebrated, you’ve made it to your last stage of pregnancy with your little! Before you know it, you’ll be able to soak up all the cuddles with your little one. And while, it may seem like it takes FOREVER to get there…. Your due date is right around the corner.

It’s time to cross off any items you have left on your to-do lists and really make sure you have everything in order to make the transition home with baby as smooth as possible. For your third trimester we are going to focus on the absolute necessities youll need to have done before baby comes.

This will help you realize just how little you actually NEED to get done for baby verses all of the wants; which are great if you have time to tackle them. Ready? Let’s go Mama!

Third Trimester Checklist

  • Install Car seat
  • Have a sleep safe area for baby (crib, bassinet, etc)
  • Sterilize bottles and pacifiers
  • Buy formula/breastfeeding supplies
  • Get breast pump (oftentimes insurance companies will supply one after baby is born)
  • Set up changing station (diapers, wipes, diaper cream)
  • Stock baby medicine cabinet (vitamin D, shampoo, gentle soap, Tylenol)
  • Set up baby monitor
  • Pack hospital bag
  • Continue practicing breathing and pain management exercises for labor
  • Prep for postpartum recovery (article linked)

This list includes some of the most basic things to help you get ready for baby’s big arrival date. However, I did include a few things that are popular, but not absolutely necessary. For example, most mamas love to have a baby monitor for peace of mind and being able to sleep in a separate space without worrying about their little one. BUT it’s not essential for you to have one, especially if you plan on having your nursery area in your bedroom.

So take heart, there really aren’t too many thing to get done in this trimester. You’ve put in the work and prepared for baby as best as you can. Now, it’s time to sit back and rest (as best you can!) knowing that your little one will be here any day!
